Luba Handa currency

Traditional Currencies in African art

Among the primitive African currencies, one easily recognizes the famous Luba "crosses" from Katanga. They bear the name of handa and were forged from copper, still in the form of a cross. They were used in trade between tribes. Many museums and settlers still have them today, especially in Belgium given its historically privileged relationship with the Democratic Republic of Congo or Zaire.
