Bongo

The Bongo live in the southern region of Sudan. The reputation of the Bongo in African art was built above all on their carved posts for the tombs of important men. The deceased, or his head, was depicted atop a cylindrical base, sometimes cut with notches indicating the number of animals and enemies killed during his life.
These traditional statues had a commemorative and protective role against evil spells.
Although rarer, the Bongo also had masks with geometric features and ovoid neckrests with two pairs of feet.
