Kuba
The Kuba kingdom is located in Kasai, in the west of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Kuba style is known in African art particularly for its variety of specific motifs. Traditional Kuba art is found as much on prestigious objects (mbwoong ntey wine glasses), ceremonial (African pwoom itok masks, mukyeem mukenda "elephant" masks, royal statues, slit drums, Kasai velvet) or everyday (tukula ngondo boxes).
African Kuba tribal art being strongly linked to ceremonies and authority figures, one can find a high degree of refinement in their creations, but the Bakuba also took pleasure and pride in the acquisition of beautiful, well-decorated everyday objects.
