Luba amulet

Small Luba anthropomorphic figure carved in wood, measuring only 7 cm high, depicting a kneeling individual with the hands brought toward the chest. The half-closed eyes, carefully incised hairstyle and composed posture give this miniature a striking presence despite its diminutive scale.

Among the Luba, small anthropomorphic figures could belong to the sphere of personal protection and ancestral remembrance. Miniature pendants and amulets were worn together with beads, shells, horns and other symbolic objects, some serving as tangible links between their owners and ancestral or spiritual forces.

Given its very small size, this figure may therefore have functioned as a personal amulet or protective miniature, rather than as an independent display sculpture. This interpretation should nevertheless remain cautious, as no obvious suspension hole or attachment device is visible.

The dark brown patina, softened on the raised areas by handling and wear, further enhances the intimate character of the object.
