Baule bronze figure

Artistic concepts and works in Bronze among the Baule

Rare couple of high Baule dignitaries in bronze. The Baule stylistic canon is clearly defined on these statues, where numerous traditional scarifications are represented.

By its refinement and its intrinsic quality, the Baule sculpture occupies a major place in the arts of the Ivory Coast, as in the African arts in general.

Contemporary artists of the early 20th century were not mistaken and often took Baule art as a reference in the reversal of artistic forms initiated by Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani and many others.
