Kusu figure

Stylistic influences in African art

The Kusu have undergone a cultural and stylistic influence from the Hemba, Luba and Songye, they therefore carved full-length statues related to the cult of ancestors. Of the Songye, they have in particular the practice of inserting a magical charge in the head of their statues as is the case here since there is still a small horn stuck at the top.

The typology of the face suggests a strong Hemba influence.
