A striking Fon power figure depicting a male. The figure is carved from wood and is covered in various substances that are applied as part of the rituals associated with them. the features are quite rudimentary and worn from much use. The top of the head has a cap of hair decorated with cowrie shells, and the face has a prominent nose. The body is covered with pieces of cloth and leather, as well as numerous padlocks, all of which have a liberal application of sacred substances. Mounted on a custom made stand. 

The Bocio figures of the Fon are associated with the Voudon religion, and the word Bocio means "empowered cadaver". These figures are created by a ritual specialist and carvers. they are commissioned by individuals who are seeking help with particular problems with the intention of reaching a positive goal. Various figures will be characterised by various symbols or poses that relate to the specific use that they are put to, for example, pregnant figures help with difficult childbirth. as part of the activation ceremonies of these figures, they are liberally applied with various sacred substances, such as blood, palm oil and alcohol.
