Kongo Nkondi fetish figure

African nail fetishes, called nkisi nkondi, were considered by the Bakongo (sing. Kongo) as powerful artifacts, whether dedicated to protection or the projection of curses.

This statuette comes from the Kongo, an ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of Congo comprising numerous subgroups and related groups.
The ventral cavity, now closed, hosted a magical charge which fueled the power of this fetish.
