Kusu Hemba ancestor figure
African art from the Congo Basin
These ancestor statues are among the most appreciated African statues in the Congo basin because of their elegance and the fine workmanship of the master sculptors of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As objects of worship, veneration and sacrifice, they were placed as genealogical markers at the back of the huts belonging to the main families.
