Bobo Turka figure
African Art from Upper Volta ( Burkina )
Bobo - Bwa - Gurunsi - Mossi - Lobi - Kurumba
Until the publication of Guy Le Moal's work in 1980, a great deal of inaccuracy was apparent in the knowledge of the Bobo, Bwa and Gurunsi cultures of Upper Volta. Authority is in the hands of the lineage chiefs, descendants of the founding ancestors of the villages.
The works of the Bobo blacksmiths are beautiful plastic constructions where a powerful geometry of forms appears. These effigies have a mediating role in the forgiveness of the faults and offences of any member or group of society.
