Kamba female figure
Art of Africa : Figure and tradition of the Kamba Kenya
From the Bantu language, the Kamba are renowned for their artistic skill. Traditional Kamba figures are rare, especially when they are old like the one we offer in our catalogue. This traditional Kamba figure in a seated position, wearing a short skirt and with precise details such as the position of the hands and above all the cranial deformation, now abandoned, bears witness to a great monumentality.
The Kamba are close neighbours of the Sidamo, Guragé, Masai and other groups from Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia.
