Lengola crucifix
African art in the Congo was very early influenced by Christianity. Thus, it is not uncommon to find hybrid objects between pagan and Christian religious practices. Among these objects, the crucifixes, a symbol that could not be more Christian, associated here with a figure of Christ typed according to Lengola statuary.
In addition to being an object of art, this cross is also a historical testimony to the arrival of missionaries in remote areas of Africa and in particular of the former Zaire.
