Cihongo Chokwe mask

African masks among the Chokwe / Tshokwe

This Cihongo mask is very popular, it represents a man of spirit, power and wealth. Their display in front of the village assembly has a magical character, they bring prosperity and fertility. Chihongo was formerly worn by a chief or a son of a chief, his feathered headdress is characteristic, and his basket skirt is trimmed with herbs that crunch as he dances, giving his hips a rotating movement.
