Among the Mande Muslims, the ox represents a sacrificial animal of great importance. It is illustrated in this mask with a sacrificial human face. The DO society to which it belongs and the clan chiefs organise sacrifices at the end of Ramadan. This buffalo mask is called SIGINKURU-AYNA. It is associated with the image of the ancient Muslim HORINGYO.
