Kete Kuba mask

Kuba: Court art / Royal art

The Kuba kingdom is located between Kasai, Sankuru and Lulua. It is a confederation of small ethnic groups with a centralized political organization around a royal court where the Bushoong are the dominant group.

Masks appear during the initiation of boys, which does not coincide with circumcision, as this is performed a few days after birth.

This wooden helmet mask comes from the Kete, it has the Kuba characteristics, a patina of use, as well as a beautiful polychromy where the original pigmentation is preserved allowing a glimpse of the classic geometric motifs of the Kuba. Definitely a beautiful work of art of quality.
