Songye Kifwebe Kilume Mask - SOLD OUT
Art of Congo: Songye Kifwebe Luba
This traditional African mask is a senior male mask, characterized by its high sagittal crest and an incredible projection of the nose and mouth. In this mask, which comes from the Lualaba River region, the striations are stylized to the maximum and are dyed with natural pigmentation in three symbolic colours. In these places, the Songye from the East rub shoulders with the Luba ethnic group. These masks are described as representing supernatural spirits or Katotoshi ancestors. They have multiple uses ranging from collecting goods to funeral ceremonies. The male mask is related to the sun.
We note that many general collectors turn to these masks for their cubist forms, giving them a designer look and making them easily compatible with clean decorations and contemporary paintings.
