Dan mask
Traditional African Dan art
Mask with a deep black patina and the aesthetic characteristics of Dan art.
The stretched, almost closed eyes are integrated into a band of red pigment, as is often seen on Dan masks. The headdress is finely crafted, with two pretty braids falling delicately, and small cowrie shell ornaments can be seen. The Zakpai mask, quite similar to the Gunyéya, differs from it in that it has a red cloth glued over the eyes. It acts against forest fires that appear during the dry season.
