Punu Okuyi mask
Gabon white masks
African wooden mask whose face is covered with a thick layer of white pigment called "kaolin". These traditional masks of the Punu ethnic group were worn by costumed dancers on stilts as seen in the background photo.
We find the headdress composed of a large lobe, a fashionable headdress worn by the Punu in the middle of the 19th century. This mask was associated with the mukudj secret society. They are called okuyi or mukuyi masks.
