Langba Budza Mbanza Mask
African masks and their geometric shapes
This African mask from the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the Ubangui region, represents a faceless migratory bird. Their artistic production remains rare and limited to a large number of crests with geometric shapes and abstract masks worn during agricultural festivals.
The fifty thousand Budja are mainly farmers and live on the right bank of the Lualaba River.
We have an interesting traceability about the provenance of this mask, it comes from a family estate and was collected in situ around the 1960s.
