Pende Gitenga Minganji mask
Diversity of masks in African art Pende
African mask of Pende origin, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As seen in the attached photo, this traditional Bapende circular mask was worn by a dancer dressed in a string costume. A large corolla of feathers accompanied the mask.
This type of mask, still dancing nowadays for village festivities, bears the name of mbuya for the generic term "mask" and minganji or gitenga for the specific name.
