Songye Kitungu Kifwebe mask

Animal masks are rare among the masks of the bwadi bwa kifwebe, among the Songye and Luba.

Specimens such as this one, ornithomorphs, bear the ethnic name "kitungu" and are characterized by their face representing an owl with protruding eyes.

We find on these masks of traditional African art recurring elements of the bifwebe masks: streaks, extruded mouth, strong stylization, naso-frontal crest.
