Songye Kifwebe mask
This mask is the archetype of the representation of the famous "bifwebe" (sing. kifwebe), traditional masks of the Basongye in R. D. Congo.
It is recognized by its high stylization accompanied by a strongly extruded mouth which joins the plane of the imposing naso-frontal crest illustrating here the fact that it is a kifwebe "kilume" mask, that is to say say masculine.
Female kikashi masks lack this crest, or at least it is severely atrophied.
An African art object that blends wonderfully with other art forms including European contemporary.
