Metoko mask
Striated African masks are found in the artistic corpus of several ethnic groups in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, including the Metoko, but also the Kela, Yela, Mbole, and Lega.
They went out on the occasion of secret initiation rites within the framework of the Bwami or related society, made up of grades to be obtained over the years.
This one, beautifully crafted, is covered with thick streaks and has simplified features.
