Ngombe mask

Similar to the majority of masks from regions adjacent to the Central African Republic, this african Ngombe mask was likely used in the context of a secret initiation rather than for public display.

In traditional african art, the style of Ngombe works has been influenced by that of their neighbors, the Ngbaka and Ngbandi, but it is less refined and more geometric. Masks are worn during ceremonies organized by the Mani society.
