Chokwe Luena maternity figure
€900.00
This African Luena statue represents a mother standing breastfeeding her child.
The Luena (Lwena) being close to the Chokwe of Angola, their respective traditional arts share many similarities.
This is also reflected in this representation of motherhood, whose half-closed almond-shaped eyes, sunken eye sockets, and thin, angular nose give it a geometric appearance.
Remarkable sculptural quality and breathtaking naturalism. On the head, we find the traditional headdress of Luena women.
The theme of motherhood is one of the favorite themes depicted in African tribal art. Illustrated by breastfeeding or pregnant women, it is represented by figures very popular with collectors.
