Headrest Luba Shankadi - SOLD OUT
African art from the DRC - Luba Shankadi
In the Luba stylistic corpus, the creation myths reserve a privileged place for women. Numerous sculptures, masks and statues or, as here, everyday objects celebrate femininity.
This neck rest consists of a finely hatched base with classical geometric patterns on which a couple is standing face to face. The figures support the seat of the piece on their heads.
In the original myth, this primordial couple gives birth to a monstrous being with four arms, four legs and two heads.
This piece presents aesthetic canons characteristic of the Shankadi style, the most famous representative of which is the famous "master of the cascade hairstyle". The remarkable finesse of the elements and the richness of the details are to be noted.
