Palm vine Cephalomorphic cup - Kuba - Congo

The libation cups in African tribal art

The traditional African cephalomorphic cuts are famous among the Kuba. Like the most prestigious cuts, this one is very finely chiselled. Indeed, we observe a facies very worked and extremely realistic. The headdress and the scarifications also testify to the sculptor's know-how.

Reserved for chefs and notables, the cuts were part of the prestige of the one who used it, the most beautiful from royal workshops.
