Deangle mask - Dan - Ivory Coast - SOLD

A very beautifully crafted Dan mask of the ‘Deangle’ type.‘Deangle masks’ such as the present one and full body costumes are worn by the men who look after young initiates in their isolated bush camps, collect food for them in the village or accompany them to the village, etc. A very refined, elegant mask carved from hard wood and originally dyed black on the front side. The fastening eyelets for the costume that are visible along the mask rim are partly still rectangular (old type!).
