Luba Pot with female power figure of the Bugabo - SOLD OUT

The refinement of Luba pieces in African art

Piece of African art remarkable for its intrinsic quality and because of its rarity. This type of power object is very rarely encountered. The female character is in the receptacle and holds the chest. The container has representations of kifwebe luba hemispherical masks. An extremely rich room in details. It could be a piece related to Bugabo.

To show respect for the oath of secrecy during certain phases of the initiation of entry into the Bugabo society, the novices inserted objects into a calabash or a cup of this type through an opening. The accumulation of such elements, grass or straw, pebbles, seeds or small pieces of iron, increased the power attributed to the object. The female bust served to welcome the spirits.
