Primitive Iron Currency - Chamba - Nigeria - SOLD

Primitive iron coins in African art

The so-called primitive iron currencies appeared relatively late in African art because the blacksmiths acquired control of the iron only after exchanges with the Westerners. Nevertheless, there is a very wide diversity according to the regions.

This type of genuine iron money, according to the form, could also constitute a weapon of jet or pageantry. They were used for barter or dowry for weddings.
