The artistic corpus of Mangbetu
The Mangbetu are known for their architectural skills that their neighbors used. The headdress is a characteristic element of the ethnic group since men and women were known to wear these elongated headdresses.
This flared ogival shape was considered aesthetic, which was why children's skulls were stretched using cords around the skull to change their shape before the fontanelles were fully welded. The linear patterns present on the body finally represent the scarifications carried by the individuals.
