Divinatory tablet Lega - SOLD OUT

The divinatory objects in the African art of Lega

Among the traditional objects of the soothsayers, here is a pretty divination tablet. The Lega are a Bantu forest people from Central Africa established mainly in the Democratic Republic of Congo east of the Lualaba River, to the borders with Rwanda and Burundi, in the provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema. The cohesion of the Balega Confederacy was not linked to a unity of command or a personalized authority (king or emperor) but an institutionalized unit through the Bwami structure.

The Bwami is a socio-political institution around which the whole society is structured. The Bami (singular: Mwami) are members of the esoteric society that embodies the social and political power of Balega (Balega).
