African mask Kple-Kple Goli - Baule - Ivory Coast - SOLD

The Kple Kple circular mask in African art

This African mask belongs to the group Goli who intervenes during funerals or when a serious danger threatens.

The Kple-Kple mask, worn by a young man, announces the release of the powerful Golin Glin. The circular facies is always surmounted by horns, such as those of the ram. These horns connect him to Nyamye, creator god. The sobriety of the features with the toothed mouth and the white circular aliasing still supports the expression of the face. This stylistic discovery may be due to the knowledge and influence of some flat voltaic masks.
