Zakpai / Zakpei Fire Mask Dan - SOLD OUT

African masks in the traditional art of Dan

African Dan masks have fairly consistent characteristics, but may vary by region. We constantly find a rather flat face with a bulging forehead, eyes either half-closed, or gaping, circular, wide open as we see on this mask of fire said Zakpei or Zakpai, and a small mouth lipped protuberant. On this mask called firefighter mask or fire mask, intended to fight against the fires which threatened the cultures, of the red cloth was applied like a bandeau on the eyes. This red fabric comes originally from the trousers of colonial soldiers. The internal patina has beautiful traces of portage. Little beard and headdress still present. We sell this mask at an attractive price lower than the estimate established by the experts of the auction room Catawiki.
