Tabwa scepter
Superb African Tabwa scepter. This traditional object is topped with a character representing an ancestor. Statues of ancestors are a frequent theme in the tribal art of the Batabwa, an ethnic group bordering Lake Tanganyika in DR Congo.
We see here on the character numerous scarifications on the face and trunk as well as an embossed headdress.
This is a rare prestigious object held by a leader.
