Claude Renard (1946 - 2019) was a multidisciplinary artist known in Belgium. Fond and passionate about traditional African art, he appreciated the richness of shapes, textures and hues. His collection, made of several hundred masks, takes us across sub-Saharan Africa, from Mali to Angola.
African art was one of the main sources of inspiration for Claude Renard, who practiced drawing and sculpture, among other things.
His collection was auctioned off in a bidding explosion. It can be said that the market has been very receptive to his sensibility leading to a fierce struggle to acquire a piece of the artist's life.
A work in his memory commissioned by his wife, prefaced by the journalist Yves Vasseur, was published in 2022.
