Pierre Dartevelle, African Art dealer & collector, Brussels, Belgium

Pierre Dartevelle (1940-2022) was one of the world's leading experts and collectors of traditional African art. Son of Edmond Dartevelle, himself a merchant, Pierre Dartevelle opened his gallery in Impasse Saint-Jacques in Brussels in 1967.
At that time, he still collected numerous masks and statues in the field during stays in Africa, mainly in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
His collection was the subject of a two-volume work “Pierre Dartevelle and African art: Memory and continuity”, published by 5 Continents.
