Fali fetish
Fetishes in African art
A wrought iron figure depicting the schematic form of a human. Around this is a leather body suit that is packed with sacred substances, with only the head, hands and feet visible.
These dolls are made by young Fali men and given to their fiance in the hope that they will bring fertility to them and the birth of children. The figures are tended like real children, possibly as a demonstration to the spirits that the female is going to be a good mother and thus encourage them to bless her with children. Once a child is born the figures are carefully put away
