Kusu Hemba figure

African statue depicting an ancestor. It is a piece halfway between the Hemba and Kusu artistic corpus. In fact, from the Kusu, the sculptor borrowed the tradition of heads pierced with an imposing cavity with sometimes extruded edges, as is the case here; and from the Hemba, he borrowed the powerful male representation adorned with a long, detailed beard giving the character a look that is both realistic and surreal. In this respect, it is actually an ancestor figure.
The balanced lines and volumes give a good idea of the artist's sculptural mastery. This antique piece has a smooth, dark patina obtained using palm oil applied many times over time.

The room exudes a feeling of serenity. It comes from a private German collection.
