Ibeji Yoruba twin figures
Rare pair of Ere Ibeji-type twin figurines. These African art objects are found among the Yoruba in Nigeria. These are composed of openwork cubic bodies of glass windows topped with typical Yoruba heads. The caps are heavily impregnated with blue pigment used as a magical substance. The two figures are linked together by a cord of cowries.
The classic Ibeji twins statues are sculpted on the basis of the human body, so we can observe here a very atypical variation of these pieces. It is likely that they were used for divinatory purposes.
