Lega Mugugundu figure - SOLD OUT

Lega animal figure linked to the teaching of the Bwami society. Within this framework, the masters instilled in the young initiates the precepts necessary for the maintenance of social order. Various masks and figurines were used. Among those items that might be the property of a single member or a small group of high-ranking initiates, Mugugundu-type figurines such as this one. They represent animals, generally mammals or reptiles, sometimes birds.

This one in very good condition and rare is covered with hallmarks and a clear patina.

This piece comes from the collection of Mr. Mongu who collected it during one of his trips to the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he is from.
