This African statue is to be counted among the very limited production known under the style of the master or masters of Buli in the region of Sola. This is a very recognizable and original style, featuring both Luba, Hemba and Kusu characteristics. Some statues, such as that of the headquarters of the Royal Museum for Central Africa, have the cruciform hairstyle of the Hemba and the Luba. On the other hand, the piece shown here, like the copy referenced III C 16G999 from the Berlin Museum, presents a braided hairstyle characteristic of the Kusu.
Thanks to research, we have even been able to identify the hand of the various sculptors making up the workshop of the Buli masters.
