Luba cup stand Congo
The legendary Luba cup bearer from the DRC Congo
This African statue, with outstretched legs and hands holding a large vessel designed to receive offerings, is none other than the well known and much publicised Luba cup bearer from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The neat, domed face seems to be stretched by the heavy, cascading headdress weighing in with all its weight. The eyes are made of coffee beans and the mouth is finely sculpted. A beautiful example from the hand of a confirmed Luba artist.
