Lega Sakimatwematwe figure
Surrealism in Maniema
Traditional Lega statue composed of two legs surmounted by two superimposed heads. The artistic corpus of the Lega, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, will always surprise us with the surrealism of the characters represented. Here, it is an iginga sakimatwematwe statue conveying in the form of an aphorism the quality of circumspection and prudence for the initiates of the bwami.
The bwami is an initiatory society that inculcates good values in Lega men and women.
