Ngbaka figure North Congo
Superb and old African statue from the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Statues and masks from the Ubangi River region are highly prized. These objects can also come from the nearby Central African Republic.
This comes from a Belgian private collection. Probably of Banda or Ngbaka origin, this piece was used as part of an initiation of which little is known except that the statues were generally destroyed once their owner died, which makes them all the more rare and precious.
The statue that I propose to you here still has pretty ornaments at the level of the large earlobes as well as cowries instead of the eyes.
