Holo Yaka Njila figure
Man and Animal in African Art
African Yaka or Holo statues of this type, called njila, are placed inside the house. They protect against witches and other enemies. The Njila bird figure is placed in dormitories where it functions as a protective charm with strong connotations of fertility. There is a head that represents an owl, a bird with keen eyesight.
This wooden figure was collected in the Kwango region.
