Zande figure of the Mani

A very proud-looking African statue. It embodies the stylistic canons of northern art from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This traditional figure, associated with the Mani, dealt with female fertility. The Mani is a social association prevalent in the Ubangi region, in the north of the country, near the Central African Republic.

This very fine example stands out for its sculptural quality, but especially for the presence of numerous accessories: a large number of metal nails in the torso, small beaded rings in the ears, and a beaded belt.
