Nyaneka OviMbundu figure
The OviMbundu ethnic group is among the largest in Angola.
African art figurines like these were used for female initiation. Note that the male counterpart existed for male initiation. This statuette depicts a young woman or Nyaneka after she has passed the puberty rites called Efuko.
This piece probably comes from the Benguela region of Angola.
