Senoufo Tugubele figurine
Wooden figurine of a Senufo character. We find there the stylistic canons of the ethnic group including the prognathic mouth, the headdress pulled upwards, the body soaring. It is in fact a statuette very similar to the famous Deble "rhythm pounder" which were used to beat the ground to the rhythm of the dances.
This old piece has small scarifications on the belly, around the umbilicus.
African Senufo art is mainly centered around agrarian rites.
