Suku Circumcision mask - SOLD OUT

In the south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, several groups including the Suku practice circumcision within the framework of Mukanda. During initiation rituals, masks were worn by initiates for the passage of boys into adulthood. The African mask here was used in this context.

It presents a somewhat particular typology, which makes it all the more unique. Its expressive face is supported by astonishing perforated hemispheres on the cheeks.

Dark and old patina.
